Library Temporary Closure wef 24/03/10

Reopening Delayed until Mid December 2010

Temporary Mobile Library Ceases from Nov 19th 2010

Postponed for 4 weeks

29.1.10                       PRESS RELEASE

A LIBRARY - AND MORE - FOR WELLESBOURNE

Wellesbourne Library will be closing for alterations on March 24 but will reopen - later this year - bigger and better than before.

The library building in Kineton Road is being extended to make room for a new Children's Centre offering additional services, on site, for families and young children. At the same time, the library will be getting a makeover and will reopen in October (2010) freshened and updated.

Temporary mobile library services will be provided in the meantime. Tanya Butchers, Divisional Library Manager for South Warwickshire, apologised in advance for any inconvenience.

"I hope local library-users will bear with us over the coming months," she said. "I am confident the improvements being made, and additional Children's Centre, will be worth the wait and bring extra benefits to the local community."

There will be no more counter queues in the revamped library, thanks to the installation of an automated, self-service checkout for borrowing and returning loan items. There will also be a flexible training room for improved learning facilities.

The new Children's Centre will offer a range of activities for parents and under-fives including ‘stay and play', ‘messy play', and mini gardening. There will be an outside play area and a toy library. The centre will also provide local people with easy access to support services such as midwives and health visitors.

While all this is being done, a mobile library will make regular visits to Wellesbourne. The details are being finalised and more information on the interim service will be issued soon.

Cllr Chris Saint, the Portfolio Holder for Leisure, Culture and Housing, said: "Wellesbourne is leading the way in a process that will see more Warwickshire libraries sharing premises with other facilities for local people. Libraries have long been at the heart of local communities and Warwickshire County Council is investing in their future - as a ‘universal front door' to a wider range of council and community services."
